Safety

Roller skating in any form is a dangerous activity.   Derby adds a new element
to this as a contact sport.   Be smart and make sure you are properly protected
with good equipment, head gear and pads.

We know many skaters are on a budget and looking for a deal but when it comes
to the main source of propulsion under your feet and protection, do not skimp.
Cheap skates and bargain equipment are just that!  Many of these do not carry
the components or strength of more expensive packages.

We sell nylon plates, but caution against them for anyone really pushing the limits
of skating or for heavier skaters.   We feel a good quality metal plate although a bit heavier,
will provide you with years of trouble free skating.   Derby is a fast moving sport requiring
quick reflexes, agility and pushing your skates to the limit.

All plates can fail/break which is why we stress quality and maintenence.
The same rule applies here:  Better plates are made from better materials.
Compare the differences between plates manufactured here in the USA and
ones from China.   Maintenance is also a huge part of skate failure.  Know your
equipment and how to service it.

Talk to your fellow skaters, read the skate forums and see what opinions others have.
If there is a problem with a product, skaters are not ones to keep quiet as
their lively hoods depend on them.

Just like any industry run by corporations, don't just impulse buy what you see a
top skater wearing.   Many times they are sponsored by that company which is
the only reason they are wearing that particular setup.
If they're getting paid to wear it, you will likely get the companies opinion only.
